I received a very nice email from “Kevin” asking me to explain our new Shi books offered on our Shi: Second Coming Indiegogo (https://igg.me/at/SHISECONDCOMING/x/20487910#/) which closes tonight. It’s not the first time, so here we go.

It has been an amazing four years since we first jumped back into publishing and have printed many high-end collectibles, graphic novels, singles and of course omnibuses.

With the Shi books, they all pertain to Ana Ishikawa’s return to comics. Ana is now a single mom in her early 40’s and raising her 15-year-old daughter, Hotaru in Brooklyn, NY. Aside from the stress of raising a teenager, taking care of her 90-year-old grandfather Yoshitora and being divorced by her husband, former NYPD detective Peter DeNyse, (due to his prison incarceration), she manages. The one thing she doesn’t have to worry about is the fact that her warrior days are far behind her.

But then comes the news that her old nemesis, Masahiro Arashi has escaped from a NYC asylum for the criminally insane and is believed to enacting a series of “Shi” copycat killings where all clues lead to Hotaru being the final target.

Return of the Warrior (now in comic shops) is a trilogy with story by me and Steven Peros, designed and lettered by Mindy Lopkin and designed by Nile Scala. Art by me and the incredible Gardenio Lima and Hi-Fi Color for Comics. All wrapped up by Deborah Steffens Tucci, Jason Odom and Jeffrey Vaughn.

1. Return of the Warrior (Part 1)

3. Sakura (cherry blossom) is the grand finale

But wait there’s more!

The oversized, Shi: Omnibus Vol. 1 captures the original Way of the Warrior storyline from 1994-96. It is 500 pages and contains 15 issues, roughs, much original black and white art original artwork, and covers the storyline’s concept and creative process.

The Senryaku omnibus is from our series that contained 36-short Shi stories written by Gary Cohn, and how the 36-stratagems of the art of war, mirror Ana’s life. The stories detail lessons told to an adolescent Ana as instructed by Yoshitora. The artworks are glorious double page spread interpretations by some of the greatest comic artists of all time. It’s a completely remastered 240-page book, same size as the Ominbus Vol. 1 that features all the contributing artists original black and white illustrations, bios, pencils, roughs, cover gallery and the “story” behind the 36 stratagems and Senryaku.

The Shi: Way of the Warrior 30th Anniversary issue is an Artist’s Edition of the very first Shi comic, WOTW #1. Every page is completely remastered (#1 was fantastically painted by the great Barry Orkin), with design drawing, original pencils/inks and a deep dive interview by Jeffrey Vaughn into the creation and development of Shi.
