GREATEST COMIC-CON EVER?!?

COMICS TAKE CENTER STAGE FOR FIRST TIME IN OVER A DECADE AS FANS, PROS CELEBRATE MASSIVE CONVENTION CREATED IN THEIR NAME

By all accounts, last week’s Comic-Con International in San Diego, the Mecca of fandom, was a tremendous success, so much so it has been heralded as the greatest SDCC ever.

“Creators like Adam Hughes and Billy Tucci told me they had their best year ever. It was a real joy to see the people that created the comics once again become front and center to the con created in their name,” said Harley Quinn writer and Painkiller Jane creator, Jimmy Palmiotti.

SDCC’s success astonished the motion-picture industry as their presence was significantly diminished due to the Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild ongoing strike. So much so that a perplexed Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit asked, “This was the year that San Diego Comic-Con was supposed to collapse. After all, with Hollywood studios pulling out and stars not able to promote their work, all due to the double whammy of the actors and writers strikes, why would people even bother to attend?”

Attend they did, and in record numbers. Over 175,000 guests, exhibitors, and attendees, rejoiced in Comic-Con returning to its roots with the most foot traffic in years and increased sales and visibility. Tucci and Crusade Comics, alongside many other exhibitors sold out of comics, prints and product, moving most to restock graphic novels and comics.

EXCLUSIVES, EXCLUSIVES, EXCLUSIVES!

Crusade Comics’ biggest seller was the  Shi: Art of War Anniversary Glitter Edition. Showcasing Ana Ishikawa in a gorgeous Retro Barbie swimsuit ensemble, Shi pays homage to the iconic childhood and collectible classic in true Southern California fashion. The 32-page book is limited to just 99 signed and numbered editions and sold out on the floor on Day One.

For those unable to attend, Comic-Con, Crusade has set aside a choice few of the limited editions in their website store. SDCC exclusives can be found here:

The card front features the dynamic and never-before-printed, original, inked and airbrushed Senryakuartwork of comics’ superstar Jae Lee. While the back reveals his Senryaku contribution’s striking final colors by Top Cow Productions.

The innovatively creative Jae Lee is a Korean American comic book artist born in South Korea in 1972. He immigrated to the United States with his parents in 1977. Jae has worked for various publishers, illustrating only small story arcs at first (X-Factor and Spider-Man primarily).

He is mostly known for his work on Namor, the Submariner, which was his first major project with Marvel Comics and Inhumans in association with writer Paul Jenkins. From 1993 to 1994 Lee worked as an artist for Image Comics and got to publish his creator-owned book Hellshock on which he worked as both writer and artist.

After returning to Marvel, Lee won an Eisner Award for Best New Series in 1999 for Paul Jenkins and his work on Inhumans. Jae later got to illustrate several The Dark Tower titles for Marvel, which were comic book adaptions of novels of the same name by Stephen King. Afterwards he has worked on such major titles as Before Watchmen: Ozymandias and Batman/Superman for DC Comics.

Jae is one of the most constantly in-demand and sought after artists working today with his interior and cover art showcased in several titles such as Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, Catwoman, Batman Eternal, Action Comics and Cyberfrog.

FINAL WEEKEND TO PLEDGE FOR THE SHI: SENRYAKU OMNIBUS!

NEW STRETCH GOAL: THE ADAM HUGHES SHI: KOGYARU TRADING CARD!

INDIEGOGO FUNDNG CAMPAIGN CLOSES MONDAY:

https://igg.me/at/ShiSenryaku/x/20487910#/

LAST SIX DAYS BEFORE KICKSTARTER CLOSES:

http://kck.st/3MTXt89

It is the final weekend to pledge for Crusade Comics’ Shi: Senryaku Omnibus Edition.

The 1995 groundbreaking comic book series is now being collected into a 240-page hardcover featuring the Art of War’s Thirty-Six Stratagems gloriously interpreted by legendary comic artists detailing the life lessons of a young Ana Ishikawa as taught to her by her grandfather.

Over 90% of the artwork has either never been seen before or in its complete glory. Dedicated story and biographical pages will also be included along with original b/w art, roughs, essays, and design insights.

Crusade is offering the Omnibus on both Indiegogo and Kickstarter platforms where backers from around the world have pledge over $155,000.00 and unlocked Senryaku’s 7th Stretch Goal, the Geof Darrow Pure Art Trading Card paving the way for the next goal, The Adam Hughes’ Shi: Kogyaru Trading Card!

The card front features comics’ superstar Adam Hughes’ never-before-printed original Shi: Kogyaru black and white commissioned artwork, while the back reveals his Senryaku contribution’s striking final colors.

Adam Hughes is no stranger to fame as one of the most sought-after comic artists who has spent several years with legendary publishing houses such as Marvel, DC and Dark House Comics. Well known for his pin up style depiction of the femme fatales in his work, Adam’s creativity is certainly not restricted to bodacious women with improbable physiques and even more improbable attires.

However, Hughes does not shy away from his unabashed appreciation of the female form; his style can be defined as pin up art with a healthy dose of Art Nouveau added for good measure. But the sheer perfection that fans have been associating with the artist’s work did not come easy. As the artist recently stated that he’s a self-taught artist and he proves his point in the freshly released Cover Run: The DC Comics Art Of Adam Hughes. The book contains the page after page of preliminary sketches and alternate takes from the Eisner award winning artist as he as he sketched his way to the perfect character.

Adam is inclined to define his work with the adjective naturalistic instead of realistic; however, fans simply cannot get enough his Good Girl style.

With just one week remaining, the Senryaku Omnibus Edition #NoFanLeftBehind Indiegogo and Kickstarter campaigns returns have exceeded $155,000.00 and have unlocked several Stretch Goals:
