About Dale Keown

Dale Keown is a Canadian comic book writer and artists known for his runs of Marvel’s Incredible Hulk and his creator-owned character, Pitt. He started working in comics in 1986 drawing several series for Aircel Comics, including SamuraiElflordDragon Ring (later Dragonforce), and Warlock 5.

Keown moved to Marvel Comics in 1989, where he first worked on Nth Man: the Ultimate Ninja, before replacing Jeff Purves on The Incredible Hulk. His work on Hulk with writer Peter David, created one of the more memorable runs of the book. David has named Keown one of the three artists whose art has mostly closely matched the visuals he conceived when writing scripts.

Keown left Marvel in 1993 to start publishing Pitt at Image Comics where its groundbreaking and dynamic visuals made it a phenomenal success. In 1995, publication of Pitt was moved over to Keown’s own company, Full Bleed Studios.

A favorite of both fans and his fellow-artists, Keown continued working for the mainstream, drawing The Darkness for Top Cow and teaming up with Peter David once more with Hulk: The End for Marvel. Keown also illustrated a crossover featuring The Darkness and the Hulk.

Keown also illustrated the Hulkmemorabilia that was released to coincide with the 2003 feature film Hulk. A much in-demand talent, Dale continued astonishing fans the world over with his dynamic art working on such iconic books as The Darkness / Pitt, and Beserker.

He most recently returned the freedom-filled realm of independent comics by co-creating Gemshockwith Mandy Summers for Stuntman Comics and illustrating stories and covers for Cyberfrog , Godlike, Inglorious Rex,and Wraith of God.

Keown is currently working on the much anticipated 30th Anniversary Pitt Omnibus. Chockful of extras, the massive 466-page, premium formatted, full color book collects the entire and no-longer-in print Pitt saga. The Omnibus’ Indiegogo sign up page can be found here:

Billy Tucci and Wes Hartman’s Exquisitely crafted cover to the Shi: Art of War Matsuri Edition!

Spring and cherry blossom season are upon us. In general, cherry blossoms represent the impermanent nature of life. Not only is the beauty of the flowers short and sweet, the trees themselves are also short-lived. But there are contradictory meanings as well. Cherry blossoms symbolize both birth and death, beauty, and violence. They are a central motif in the Japanese worship of nature, but they have also historically signified the short but colorful life of the samurai.

“I’m glad to announce that our Shi: Art of War Matsuri Limited Editions are in.” Stated Shi-creator, Billy Tucci. “They are just gorgeous. Deborah [Crusade Comics’ Executive Director] will be bagging, boarding and packing them up to ship out. Thank you for your wonderful support.”

WE DID IT!

Dear Zombie-Sama: Dorm of the Dead Kickstarter Backers,

THANK YOU for bringing John Broglia and my  Zombie-Sama: Dorm of the Dead Kickstarter campaign to life! We’ve survived and thrived these past thirty days and our “little zombie book that could” is funded!

Deborah and I want to thank all of you for your amazing support. We know that Dorm of the Dead would not be possible without you and are once again humbled by your wonderful faith in Crusade Comics.

#TeamZS is made up of wonderful creatives who have worked (in John’s case, YEARS) incredibly hard to bring you all one terrifically terrorizing tale of friendship and fight.

Again, I must thank my co-creator John for his devotion and brilliance in bringing Jim, Jane and the ZS lore collective to life. He, alongside, the indefatigable designer/production manager/ letterer, (and more!), Mindy Lopkin, colorists Paul Little and Sean Callahan, video/promotional/graphic designer Nile Scala, producer Brian Blevins, editors Jason Odom, J.C. Vaughn and Deborah Tucci deserve to be applauded for an incredible job well done for not only creating Dorm of the Dead but getting it to the printer before campaign’s close.

I also want to thank our wonderful guest cover artists, Irene Strychalski and Dan Mendoza for their amazing contributions! I owe you both (in Dan’s case an upcoming Zombie Tramp cover) a nod gratitude and a drink!

As I stated, Dorm of the Dead is now at the printer. We will begin fulfilling at the end of this month and then Crusade will launch our next Kickstarter Adventure in May, The Shi: Senryaku Ominbus Edition!

Jim Okami and Jane Ishikawa’s adventures have just begun and we look forward to your reading Zombie-Sama!, Winter Ronin, and Dorm of the Dead. John is already working on 2024’s Zombie-Sama III!

J.C. Vaughn and I are also really excited for you to read the Shi: Gatecrasher Ashcan. The new graphic novel features Ana battling alongside many independent and public domain characters as she fights her way through comic book time and genres!

Thank you for unlocking the following Stretch Goals:

  • Stretch Goal: Free Zombie-Sama! Digital Edition to all backers – Unlocked!
  • Stretch Goal: Bloody Yearbook Mini Print – Unlocked!
  • Stretch Goal: Irene Strychalski Cover Trading Card: Unlocked!
  •

I want you to know that’s not all you’ll be getting as Dorm of the Dead is now LIVE on Indiegogo and you too will receive whatever Stretch Goals that campaign unlocks.

Domo Arigato for backing Zombie-Sama: Dorm of the Dead. We know you’re going to love reading it as we did making it!

#ZSStrong,

Billy Tucci

Through his company, Crusade Fine Arts, Shi has been printed in five languages and sold more than 3 million comic books. In addition to his own creations, the graduate of New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology has earned the prestigious Diamond Comics Gem Award and has been nominated for four Eisner Awards. Billy’s DC Comics’ graphic novel, Sgt. Rock: The Lost Battalion, was awarded the Military Writers Society of America Gold Medal for its depiction of the highly decorated, real-life 442nd Regimental Combat Team, which was comprised of Japanese-American soldiers.
